Dreamland “I have dreams in the night... and then I just have to paint”
Lorna Corrigan is a visual artist based in KCAT supported studio group in Callan, Co. Kilkenny. Lorna has been an active member of KCAT since 2004. She works predominantly in drawing and painting using acrylic paint, water-based inks and Posca markers to create her distinctive style. This exhibition will be Lorna's first solo presentation in Belfast.. These paintings demonstrate Lorna’s commanding use of colour and expressive line work. Her abstract compositions create a sense of wonder and appreciation for the beauty in the world around us.
Lorna has exhibited extensively, both nationally and internationally. In 2014 she presented her solo exhibition And Then I Paint, in The Laois Arthouse Gallery, Stradbally. Her work was part of the Engagement Project (touring exhibition) which was exhibited in venues throughout Ireland including: F.E. McWilliam Gallery, Banbridge, Co. Down and Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre, Skibbereen. Her work was included in Matriarch as part of the Kilkenny Arts Festival in 2022. She has also participated in exhibitions and projects in Australia, the UK, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Recently exhibitions were Women and war in Wexford 2023 and a major Retrospective and publication of her work in the KCAT Gallery Kilkenny in 2023.
The works in this series depict imagery from Lorna’s dreams and memories of scenes that have captivated her. Her deeply personal works often register a profound connectivity she feels with particular places, people, and the natural world. She is inspired by her travels, by the people around her and by everyday encounters. The aim of this exhibition is to create a dialogue with the audience through the works and highlight this effortless melding of art making and life.
