Sean is professor emeritus of Irish History and visiting research fellow at the Institute of Irish Studies at Queen’s University. His latest book, On Every Tide: The Making and the Remaking of the Irish World, is a wide-ranging reassessment of the Irish diaspora which examines the forces that compelled millions of Irish men and women to abandon their homeland, the lives they built in their new homes, through to the twentieth century, when Ireland itself has become a receiver rather than an exporter of emigrants.
