It has been a very different and at times challenging year creating a need for entertainment and celebration now more than ever and to that end, we are delighted to present our virtual Fleadh Feirste programme!

Groups within the Gaeltacht Quarter came together to respond to that need and provide a magical programme of events for the community at home and abroad. We have
created a range of activities including the annual switching on of our Christmas lights, family theatre (where the big man in red may even make an appearance) with Brassneck Theatre Company, and the best of traditional music in Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich and in Áras Uí Chonghaile.

Tony Devlin, Director of Brassneck Theatre Company says: “Brassneck Theatre Company are very pleased to be a part of this year’s Fleadh Feirste. ‘Rosie, Rudolf & An Ruaille Buaille’ is a beautiful film and we look forward to sharing it with the community.”

There will be a choice of beautiful literary events with An tSnáthaid Mhór and Máire Zepf. An Ceathrú Póilí will host a truly insightful conversation as journalist Eoghan Ó Néill sits down with Pádraig Ó Mianáin to discuss all things pertaining to the feat that is Foclóir Uí Mhianáin. As always, the arts are at the heart of what we do and Aisling Ghéar will stage a new production looking at the community’s response to Covid-19.

All of the events in this programme are a testament to the hard work of our multi-talented and creative community and that community is forever beholden to the pioneers who came before us as reflected in festival heritage events including the launch of ‘Conradh na Gaeilge’s heritage project, ‘Claochlú Cultúir agus an Conradh’, Áras Uí Chonghaile’s story so far - taking in the story of The Connolly Centre and James Connolly’s lasting impact.

It is quite fitting as we approach a year of celebration here in Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich, celebrating 30 years, that we will have our own heritage event, “If the Walls Could Talk”, taking in community memories of Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich.

According to Brónagh Fusco, Events Manager, Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich: We are delighted that a range of groups came together to create this varied and diverse festival programme. It us a testament to the collaborative and cooperative mentality that we are able to present a virtual programme of events demonstrating the energetic and growing community here in An Cheathrú Ghaeltachta and surrounding areas. We can’t celebrate together as we usually do, but we will be together in spirit as An Cheathrú Ghaeltachta is lit up with the bright lights and spirit of Christmas showcasing the best of theatre, discussion, music, storytelling, family crafts and more.

Áras Uí Chonghaile’s Development Officer, Clíodhna Nic Bhranáir added, Áras Uí Chonghaile is delighted take part in Fleadh Feirste this year. There is a wide range of fantastic events and plenty of craic guaranteed. Come and join us!
