“MURKTACKTISS” is a solo exhibition of works by the Belfast-based artist Gerard Carson. Featuring sculptures, videos, animations, and drawings, MURTACKTISS zones in on accelerated modes of production/extraction in an environment of increasingly abstracted networks of knowledge and materiality. Objects and materials become tangled in assemblages of extraction, suspended in arrays of metamorphosis, where individual units are swallowed into chaotic swarms of feedback. Novel formations emerge from this murky swamp of materiality, producing cybernetic hybrids that merge definitions of the ‘known/unknown’ and the ‘fictive/real’. MURKTACKTISS is an ongoing manifestation of material contingency, drawing upon Carson’s research into gothic flatlines, material agency, and technological utility.
