Gearóid Ó Muilleoir will launch the autobiography of West Belfast Irish language activist and lifelong republican Jake Mac Siacais as part of Fleadh Feirste, The Belfast Gaeltacht Festival 2019.
“I entered this world on a wooden bathboard, if the story my mother told me is true. It wasn’t the most auspicious of beginnings nor indeed the worst. For me it was a start and in this life you only get one, be it good, bad or indifferent. It was also a new start for my parents. It is certain that my first day started pretty much as many other days have started before and since.
“The big world was turning on its axis and people were going about their normal business in blissful ignorance of my existence.”
These are the opening words of Mac Siacais’ memoirs which cover the period from his earliest memories in the early 1960s right up until 2019 – a troubled time in Irish life.
Refreshments will be provided.
