Aisling? is a cultural extravaganza of newly commissioned music, song, dance and literature from Ireland’s finest traditional and contemporary artists. A performance not to be missed.

Funded by the Arts Council, Foras na Gaeilge and Creative Ireland, this major new music and literature production embarks on a national tour this Autumn as the highlight event of Bhliain na Gaeilge 2018. This tour begins in Galway’s Town Hall Theatre on Friday 31 August 2018 before transferring to Dublin’s Olympia Theatre and from there to Waterford, Belfast, Derry and Ráth Chairn in Co Meath.

Presented by Ealaín na Gaeltachta and produced and directed by Darach Mac Con Iomaire, Aisling? showcases the best of Gaeltacht artists – musicians, poets, writers, visual artists and composers – to celebrate and reflect on the story of the Gaeltacht over the last 100 years and how pivotal these regions were in shaping the vision of those who stood against imperial rule in 1916.

Aisling? brings audiences on a powerful and evocative journey, tracing through music, poetry and contemporary dance, the story of our Gaeltachtaí and how these culture-rich regions inspired the leaders of the Rising in 1916; their subsequent cultural and economic demise as the newly established state abandoned rural Ireland through the doldrums of the 40’s and 50’s; the emergence of the Gaeltacht Civil Rights Movement in 1969, and then to the present day where much of what was demanded then has been achieved, but the question now is – is this enough, and where do we go from here..?

Don’t miss the opportunity to witness this unique collaboration of Ireland’s finest Traditional and Contemporary Artists.
